Mitred Parakeet Aratinga mitrata
15 ” (38 cm). A native of Peru, eastern Bolivia and north-western Argentina. Typical of the genus Aratinga the adult is mainly green. Its forehead is brownish-red with bright scattered red feathers on cheeks, sides of neck and nape. Bare white eye rings, horn colored beaks and gray feet. Juveniles show little or no red plumage. Similar to other parrots & parakeets it eats seeds, nuts and fruits. There may now be as many as 4 subspecies distinguished by the variations in color.
