Eurasian DotterelCharadrius morinellus
8-9" (20-23 cm). A chunky Arctic plover. Breeding adult brown above, with bold white eyebrow, white band across breast, and russet breast. Winter adult and young are duller, with buff eyebrows and vague breast band.
A soft pip-pip or pip-pip-pip.

Breeds in northwestern Alaska on Seward Peninsula and on nearby Saint Lawrence Island. Winters in Old World. Also in Eurasia.
The Eurasian Dotterel, a familiar bird in northern Europe, is only a rarity in Alaska. This tundra-dwelling bird is quite tame and can be approached easily.
2 or 3 buff, yellowish, or greenish eggs, spotted with blackish-brown, in a shallow depression in tundra vegetation.
